new words

Ever wondered if a word you use with your friends is more widely used by all of U.S. culture? Well wonder now more! Merriam-Webster updates its words every year. Just last year, these were added: ginormous, crunk, Bollywood, DVR, and sudoku.

RPG was also added, but funny enough, the definition did not include role playing game. For more about this issue, go to the write-up at Boing Boing.

How does a word get into the dictionary you ask. Merriam-Webster performs an activity called "reading and marking" through a cross section of published material, so see which new words come up, what the context implies their meaning is, and if there are enough citations to pass judgment on a clear definition.
