While traditional journalists are struggling and the mass media are being repressed right now in Iran, many advocate Twitter and other social networks as essential tools of communication and aids to freedom of expression (read that opinion here).
On the other hand, some are questioning the validity and reliability of these unconventional news reports due to anonymity and lack of fact-checking (read that side here).
