iFart with my iPhone

Was just looking through Mintel Oxygen news releases/udpates/etc and happened upon this:

Created by Joel Comm, the new iPhone/iPod Touch application is just what it reminds you of, a $.99 novelty iPhone download that plays a wide range of fart noises. Released on December 12, the flatulent noise has been downloaded 113,865 times, amounting to a total of $78,908 in sales. According to the creator’s blog site, just over Christmas Eve and Christmas day alone, more than 58,000 users bought the iFart application, bringing in over $40,000 in only two days.
And I just went to their blog at ifartmobile.com (i don't know if I can type the name with a straight face) and there's a video contest! Quick people, download and enter to win $5000 for being immature. Really?

This application was #1 in the iTunes App Store for several weeks.

I think this is a sign of the times and shows that people aren't concerned with using technology to increase their productivity (what smart phones are originally intended to do) and instead are looking for relatively inexpensive ways to amuse themselves in the short term. This is assuming that iFart dies out like iBeer and the Zippo app did, eventually making way for the next app of it's kind- possibly iBurp?
